Our charity relies on our volunteers to operate and there are so many ways to get involved. We’re a friendly bunch and volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn a new skill and share your expertise with us. If you have some time to spare and like to spend time beside the water we have the role for you, take a look at some of the options below.
Support your local branch
Each branch works differently and there are many ways of supporting them from becoming branch secretary, arranging talks or maybe looking after social media. We’d love to hear from you if you can help with any of the following:
- Help with social media or marketing and communication activity
- Organise meetings or social events
- Keep an eye on local planning applications which might impact the canal and help with a response
Lock surveyor
We try to undertake an annual survey of the canal locks to help inform CRT maintenance work. Lock survey volunteers keep an eye and complete a short survey on a designated lock section and report back to us and build up a database. We use this information to champion the priority of work planned by CRT. This is a very flexible role with volunteers located along the length of the navigation.
Join our editorial team or support digital communications
Creating the membership magazine The Butty is a labour of love and we would welcome support. Roles could include writing a regular column, providing photography to use or helping negotiate the production and postage costs.
We are trying to improve our social media presence and digital communications. The role could include responding to comments to helping create and post content. If you have skills in this area we would love to hear from you.
